Background information about the American Chemical Society Northeast Regional Meeting, NERM2008

  • The American Chemical Society is a self-governed individual membership organization that consists of more than 160,000 members at all degree levels and in all fields of chemistry. The organization provides a broad range of opportunities for peer interaction and career development, regardless of professional or scientific interests. The programs and activities conducted by ACS today are the products of a tradition of excellence in meeting member needs that dates from the Society's founding in 1876. Further information is available here.
  • NERM2008 is hosted by the ACS Green Mountain Local Section, one of 189 Local Sections of the American Chemical Society. The Green Mountain Local Section includes more than 200 Vermont-based chemistry professionals, students, teachers, academics and retired chemists. We aim to promote public awareness of chemistry by our involvement in programs such as National Chemistry Week, and the Vermont Math and Science Fair. Our regular meetings and dinners provide an opportunity for Vermont chemists to network and socialize, and to hear some excellent speakers. We are also active politically and seek to provide a chemistry voice in Montpellier and to our State Representatives in Washington DC through the work of our Government Affairs Committee
  • The ACS Northeastern Region includes Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Northern New York.
